HISTORY
Between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, pirates ravaged shipping traffic and metropolitan ports in America, and in the early eighteenth century, placed their bases on New Providence Island in the Bahamas. Among these pirates of the Caribbean were formidable captains like the famous Blackbeard, who aboard "Queen Anne's Revenge" expelled the Caribbean and the Atlantic coast of North America.
He began his criminal activities under the command of Benjamin Hornigold after the Spanish Civil War (1700-1713). Teach was impressive with his tall stature and most notorious physique, a long, thick black beard, which made him truly intimidating and imposing. He was still armed with several sabers, knives and three pairs of pistols he smoothed his beard with cannon wicks which he lit when he went into battle: those who saw him fighting, with a cloud of smoke around his head, said he looked like the devil.
In May of 1718 he blocked the port of Charleston, surrounded the city and kidnapped several citizens, by whose freedom he requested an unusual rescue: a box of medicines. Their fleet has been reached and defeated. Teach received five bullets and several saber wounds, was beheaded and his head hung in the Hampton Garrison yard.
